VANCOUVER — After their best regular season in franchise history, the Vancouver Whitecaps will begin their quest for MLS Cup glory this Sunday when they host FC Dallas in Game 1 of their Round One playoff series at BC Place.
The match kicks off between October 24-27, with more than 20,000 tickets already sold as the city rallies behind a team that has captured hearts with their record-breaking campaign. Fans can find tickets at whitecapsfc.com/playoffs.
This marks the third consecutive season the Whitecaps have qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs, but this year feels different. After securing first place in the Western Conference on Decision Day for the first time in club history, Vancouver has established themselves as legitimate contenders with home-field advantage throughout the conference playoffs.
The addition of German superstar Thomas Müller in August has transformed the team, with the Bayern Munich legend tallying eight goals and four assists in eight matches across all competitions since his arrival. Alongside captain Ryan Gauld, who recently returned from injury, the Whitecaps possess the attacking firepower to trouble any opponent.
Standing in their way first is the winner of the Wild Card match between seventh-seeded Portland Timbers and eighth-seeded FC Dallas on October 22. The best-of-three series format means Vancouver must win two matches to advance, with games scheduled between October 24 and November 9.
Should the Whitecaps prevail, they'll face the winner of LAFC versus Austin FC in the Conference Semifinals on November 22-23. Beyond that lies the Conference Finals on November 29-30, with MLS Cup scheduled for December 6.
While Vancouver enters with home-field advantage and momentum, the ultimate prize remains elusive. Bookmakers have installed Inter Miami as favorites at +450 odds, banking on Lionel Messi's magic in the Eastern Conference. The Philadelphia Union, who captured the Supporters' Shield with the league's best record, also present a formidable challenge.
The Whitecaps' odds of lifting the trophy may be long, but in a single-elimination playoff format where every match is do-or-die, anything is possible. With a raucous home crowd behind them and their best squad in years, Vancouver's championship dream begins with the Wild Card results on October 22.
