FRISCO, TX – Ralph Priso scored a dramatic 93rd-minute equalizer as Vancouver Whitecaps FC defeated FC Dallas 1-1 (4-2 on penalties) Saturday night, advancing to the MLS Western Conference Semifinals for just the third time in club history.
The veteran midfielder's clutch goal, his first since June 2022, forced a penalty shootout where Vancouver converted all four attempts to secure their spot in the next round. The 'Caps will host either Los Angeles FC or Austin FC on November 22 at BC Place, with tickets going on sale Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
Dallas struck first in the 25th minute when Petar Musa latched onto Ramiro Benetti's through ball and chipped goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka to give the home side a 1-0 lead. The Whitecaps struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, with Emmanuel Sabbi coming closest after intercepting a poor pass, only to see his shot flash narrowly wide.
Vancouver dominated possession after halftime, controlling 62.4% of the ball and outshooting Dallas 13-10. Despite numerous chances – including near-misses from Sabbi and Sebastian Berhalter – the equalizer remained elusive until stoppage time.
Thomas Müller's header from a Berhalter corner fell to Priso, whose initial shot was saved but whose follow-up found the net, sending the 'Caps' bench into celebration. The goal made Priso the 21st different player to score for Vancouver in MLS play this season, a new league record.
The drama continued in the shootout, where Müller, Berhalter, Kenji Cabrera, and Belal Halbouni all converted their penalties. Dallas missed twice, with Patrickson Delgado and Nolan Norris both failing to score.
The victory marks another step forward for a Whitecaps side that has previously reached the semifinals in 2015 and 2017 but never advanced to a Western Conference Final. With home-field advantage secured, they'll look to make history on November 22.
