This month marks a significant milestone for Delta's healthcare landscape as construction commences on the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre, a transformative project set to enhance senior care in the region.

Situated on the Delta Hospital campus, the new facility will replace the aging 92-bed Mountain View Manor with a modern 200-bed centre designed to provide a home-like environment for its residents. The design focuses on small "households," each accommodating 12 or 13 residents in single-bed rooms with private bathrooms. These households will feature communal spaces such as living rooms, dining areas, activity rooms, and access to outdoor areas, fostering a sense of community and comfort. Beyond residential spaces, the centre will include amenities like art and activity rooms, a hair salon, a sacred space, and a 32-space adult day program aimed at supporting seniors living more independently. An innovative 49-space childcare facility will also be constructed on-site, promoting intergenerational interactions between children and long-term care residents .

The project is a collaborative effort between Fraser Health and the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation (DHCHF). The Ministry of Health is contributing $179.7 million towards the capital costs, while DHCHF has committed to raising $18.25 million through its "Coming Home" campaign—the largest in its 35-year history. As of April 2024, over $13 million had been raised, including a record $5 million donation from Ryan and Cindy Beedie, after whom the centre is named .BC Gov News+4North Delta Reporter+4Cloverdale Reporter+4Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society+7North Delta Reporter+7North Delta Reporter+7Cloverdale Reporter

Construction is expected to be completed by 2027, bringing to fruition a facility that not only addresses the growing needs of Delta's aging population but also sets a new standard for long-term care in the community.
