In a game that had everything from celebrity sightings to nail-biting overtime drama, the Edmonton Oilers summoned serious grit, and probably some serious core stability to pull off a monumental comeback in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final. Final score? 5–4 Oilers in OT.
Down 3–0 in the first period, this looked like it might be another Florida flex session. But Edmonton had different plans. Led by Leon Draisaitl, who might as well have skated in straight from a spin class, the Oilers flipped the narrative and silenced a roaring Sunrise crowd.
🧊 First Period: Panthers Come Out Punching
Florida wasted zero time turning pressure into points.
- Matthew Tkachuk lit the lamp twice on power plays, and
- Anton Lundell added another before the first period closed.
Panthers fans were feeling smug. Oilers fans were bracing for a meltdown. But hold the protein shake, Edmonton wasn’t done.
🧠 Comeback Mode Activated
In a second-period blitz, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Darnell Nurse, and Vasily Podkolzin started the rally. Each goal was a masterclass in pressure and persistence, honestly, these guys played like they just came out of a HIIT workout and wanted more.
The Panthers looked dazed. Their forecheck softened. Edmonton’s belief surged.
🥵 Third Period Chaos and Cardio
Down 4–3 with time ticking away, Sam Reinhart tied it up for Florida with just 19.5 seconds left. Cue heart palpitations, especially if you're a Panthers fan trying to keep your heart rate in zone 2.
It was fast, physical, and so tense it felt like the puck had its own pulse.
🧨 Overtime Heroics
Leon Draisaitl, whose nickname might as well be “OT Beast,” ended it with a lethal wrister that cleanly beat Florida’s goalie. It was his 4th OT goal of the postseason, tied for the most in NHL history. Talk about clutch under pressure.
He didn’t just score a goal. He delivered a message: We’re not done yet.
🏋️♂️ Mindset > Mayhem
This win wasn’t just about skill, it was about mental toughness and conditioning. Edmonton looked like a team that’s been training in the offseason, not just for endurance, but for moments exactly like this. Think: explosive power meets elite game IQ.
The Panthers, once riding high after Game 3’s beatdown, were left to reassess. Their conditioning isn’t in question, but their ability to close out close games just might be.
🎤 Celebs, Stats & Storylines
- Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were in the building. No word on whether her next album includes a breakup ballad about blown leads.
- This was the third OT game in four matchups, a stat not seen in a Cup Final since 2013.
- Calvin Pickard, who subbed in for Stuart Skinner after a shaky start, was stellar, 22 saves on 23 shots.
🎯 Series Outlook
With the series tied 2–2, momentum heads back to Edmonton for Game 5 on Saturday, June 14. This Final is now a best-of-three. And judging by the first four games, don’t be surprised if we see overtime again, or someone collapse from sheer exhaustion (hydrate, people!).
From the ice to the gym, this is what resilience looks like. It’s about coming back when you’re down, regrouping when you’re gassed, and showing up when it counts most.
Whether you're chasing pucks or chasing gains, Game 5 is your reminder: pressure reveals champions.
