Standing in line at a Tampa Publix with coffee, tomatoes, and a bottle of cabernet in my basket, I felt something simple yet profound—a calm presence behind the noise of beeping scanners and chatter. After years of exploring spirituality and working in IT, I’ve come to see that awareness isn’t a mountaintop event. It’s the thread that runs through ordinary life.

Most people speak of enlightenment as a sudden awakening. For me, it’s never been distant. It appears while driving to BioLife, walking in the park, or helping a client fix a Windows issue. Everyday tasks don’t block awareness; they reveal it.

I’ve worked in technology for over 25 years, surrounded by updates, systems, and schedules. Yet the quiet sense of being has never depended on perfect circumstances. It shows up when I take a breath before answering a call, when I taste coffee after a long day, or when I notice silence between songs.

You don’t need a retreat to reconnect with it. Try pausing at a red light for one mindful breath. Feel the texture of an item before putting it in your cart. Listen for the stillness between sounds. These tiny moments invite awareness back into view.

Enlightenment isn’t something to reach someday—it’s already here, woven into Tampa traffic, grocery aisles, and late-night reflections. The more we notice it, the more life itself becomes the practice.
