Proper hashtag usage is essential for maximizing your article's visibility on the WBN News Platform. Understanding how to use tags will help your content reach the right audience through Google searches and organic discovery. Even then, things can be a little confusing for the beginner.
In general, hashtags work something like this:
- Categorization: They act as tags to group posts by topic, theme, or event.
- Searchability: They turn text into a clickable link, allowing users to find all content tagged with that word or phrase.
- Discovery: They help you discover new content and trends, while also making your own posts more visible to a wider, relevant audience.
- Joining conversations: They allow users to participate in ongoing discussions or follow trending topics.
Understanding Tag Types
The Ghost platform offers two types of hashtags: public tags and internal tags. For optimal search engine optimization, focus primarily on public tags. These tags make your articles discoverable to readers searching for specific topics on Google and other search engines. There are two places you will be adding your tags. One is below your article and the other is in the Tag Input Box. If you do not have access to the Tag Input Box at first, your editor can help you with this.
The correct way to add the Tags to your Tag Input Box is to add the word "Marketing" as a stand-alone word or "Marketing Policies" as a two or more word phrase.
This means when sharing your tags, YOU WILL add a # in front of the word or phrase in the section of tags listed below your article. But in the Tag Input Box, it is very important you DO NOT put a # in front of the words you have in your tag. An example is "Digital Marketing". It should be entered exactly like that.
Three wrong ways include: 1. "#Digital Marketing", 2. "DigitalMarketing" and finally 3. #DigitalMarketing. Otherwise, what the tag looks like to Google is "hash-digital marketing". It most likely won't get you the traffic you are hoping for.
Best Practices for Hashtag Formatting
Use 5 to 7 tags per article to maintain focus without overwhelming your content. Unlike other platforms, you will need to add a space between any phrases you are using, like this: "Ai For Business". This spacing improves readability and ensures proper indexing by search engines. Again, the tags below your article should have a # in front of them, but in the Tag Input Box, do not add the # symbol, but in both cases, they will need a space if there is more than one word.
Essential Tags to Include
Always try to include location-specific platform tags such as #WBN News Vancouver or #WBN News Canada. This helps readers find local content and strengthens your platform's regional presence. Additionally, add your name as a tag using the format #First Name Last Name, which builds your personal brand and makes it easier for readers to follow your work. Again, below your article you do want to have the # symbol, but in the Input Box, it is just "First Name Last Name" with a space in between the first and last name.
Proper Tag Presentation
Label your hashtags clearly by beginning with the word "TAGS" in all capital letters. List your tags in a single row, separated by commas and spaces for clean presentation.
Example: TAGS: #Technology News, #AI For Business, #WBN News Vancouver, #Digital Transformation, #Innovation Trends, #Jane Smith
By following these guidelines, you'll enhance your article's discoverability and contribute to WBN News Platform's growing digital presence.
