German defence-tech start-up ARX Robotics, a leader in unmanned autonomous land systems, is drawing the attention of Canadian defence experts following a major strategic partnership with Daimler Truck. This move could accelerate Canada's interest in AI-driven military mobility solutions as part of its defence modernization efforts.

Founded in Munich in 2021 by Marc Wietfeld, Maximilian Wied, and Stefan Roebel, ARX Robotics has rapidly become a European powerhouse in unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). Their AI-powered Mithra OS platform supports autonomous navigation, teleoperation, and real-time sensor integration for vehicles operating in conflict zones. Their technology is already in use by six European militaries, including Ukraine, which has received the largest western fleet of UGVs for critical missions like mine clearance and medical evacuation.

Now, ARX Robotics is teaming up with Daimler Truck’s Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks division to integrate this technology into military-grade vehicle platforms like the Zetros and Unimog. The partnership, announced on March 31, 2025, aims to enhance digital networking, efficiency, and operational capability in next-generation military vehicles.

Canada—already a long-time buyer of Daimler's logistics and tactical vehicles—is a potential candidate for this joint European innovation. Experts suggest that ARX’s scalable AI systems could be adapted to Canadian military needs, including Arctic operations, search and rescue, and humanitarian missions.

“This partnership between ARX Robotics and Daimler Truck shows the future of defence mobility: smart, autonomous, and internationally cooperative,” said one Canadian defence analyst. “It’s likely Ottawa will be watching closely.”

As NATO countries seek to upgrade existing fleets with AI capabilities, ARX's retrofit-friendly systems present a fast, cost-effective solution. A Canadian partnership could be next—one that aligns national defence with cutting-edge European innovation.
