TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS FLY INTO ROUND TWO — NO, SERIOUSLY

History was made, and probably broken, as the Toronto Maple Leafs did the unthinkable: they advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Somewhere in downtown Toronto, a fan has already started a GoFundMe to build a statue of Joseph Woll... and a bronze pig with wings.

The Leafs now lead the Florida Panthers 2–0 in their second-round series. After a nail-biter 5–4 Game 1 win and a gritty 4–3 victory in Game 2, Toronto heads to Florida for Game 3 on Friday, May 9.

Goaltender Anthony Stolarz stayed behind in Toronto after a head injury in Game 1. Woll stepped up big in Game 2, proving that the Leafs' goaltending depth isn't just a fantasy sports fluke.

Scoreboard So Far:

Game 1: TOR 5, FLA 4

Game 2: TOR 4, FLA 3

Game 3: Friday, May 9 in Sunrise, Florida

MCDAVID PERFORMS MIRACLES AS OILERS TURN UP THE HEAT

Connor “McJesus” may not have parted the Red Sea, but he definitely split the Vegas defense wide open. Edmonton leads the series 2–0 after a dominant 4–2 Game 1 and a divine 5–4 OT win in Game 2, with Leon Draisaitl putting the finishing touch on Vegas' hope.

Fans in Alberta are already prepping banners that read: “In McJesus We Trust.” Rogers Place is expected to be louder than a Zamboni drag race when Game 3 hits on Saturday.

Scoreboard So Far:

Game 1: EDM 4, VGK 2

Game 2: EDM 5, VGK 4 (OT)

Game 3: Saturday, May 10 in Edmonton

WASHINGTON CAPITALS EVEN SERIES, THANKS TO THOMPSON’S WALL

The Washington Capitals fought back in Game 2 to even their series with the Carolina Hurricanes at 1–1. Goaltender Logan Thompson stopped 27 shots and possibly a few Carolina fans’ dreams in a 3–1 win.

Game 3 shifts to Raleigh on Saturday, May 10.

DALLAS HOLDS EDGE OVER WINNIPEG

The Dallas Stars are up 1–0 on the Winnipeg Jets, following a 3–2 win in Game 1. Game 2 is set for Friday night, and Winnipeg is hoping to strike back before things spiral into Leaf-level panic.

THE HUGHES BROTHERS RUMOR SWIRL: FAMILY REUNION IN JERSEY?

Rumblings continue about Canucks captain Quinn Hughes potentially joining his brothers, Jack and Luke, in New Jersey. The Devils haven’t confirmed it—but if it happens, the “Hughes House” could become the NHL’s answer to the Marvel multiverse.

INJURY REPORT

Anthony Stolarz (TOR): Head injury; out indefinitely.

Logan Thompson (WSH): Healthy and heating up.
