Vancouver Opera is set to captivate audiences with three timeless masterpieces beginning this Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The season promises an unforgettable journey through opera's greatest works, featuring drama, comedy, and romance performed by world-class artists.
The season opens with Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto, a gripping tale of vengeance, corruption, and a father's desperate love for his daughter. This new production, created in partnership with Pacific Opera Victoria, will be directed by Glynis Leyshon and conducted by Vancouver Opera Music Director Jacques Lacombe.
American baritone Michael Chioldi stars in the title role alongside Canadian soprano Sarah Dufresne as Gilda. Audiences can experience this powerful tragedy on October 25, 30, and November 2, with iconic arias like "La donna è mobile" bringing Verdi's immortal score to life.
In February 2026, the mood shifts with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte (February 7, 12, and 15), a witty comedy exploring love, fidelity, and mistaken identities. Director Rob Herriot leads an all-Canadian cast through Mozart's playful examination of the human heart.
The season concludes in grand style with Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème (April 25, 26, 30, May 2 and 3, 2026), one of opera's most beloved love stories. Set in bohemian Paris, this five-show engagement features soprano Jonelle Sills as Mimì under the baton of Music Director Emeritus Jonathan Darlington.
All productions are sung in Italian with English surtitles projected above the stage, making these masterworks accessible to all audiences. As Canada's second-largest professional opera company, Vancouver Opera continues its 66-year tradition of creating extraordinary experiences through voice, music, and theatre.
