Get ready for an unforgettable night of suspense, glamour, and intrigue as Vancouver Mysteries and the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) team up to present “Murder at the Movies”—a thrilling live whodunit set in the golden age of film noir. This immersive murder mystery experience transforms the VIFF Centre into a real-life crime scene, where every attendee plays a part in solving the case. This is no ordinary movie night—it's a gripping fusion of film, theatre, and audience participation that promises to keep you guessing until the final clue is revealed.
The story unfolds during the red carpet premiere of Cooking Up Trouble, a fictional film starring iconic screen couple Nick Alexander and Joan Eastwick, who portray amateur sleuths Basil and Lavender. As the glamorous couple takes the stage and the film begins to roll, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur. Suddenly, there's a real murder—and it’s up to the audience to uncover the truth. With clues to gather, suspects to question, and plot twists at every turn, you'll need your wits, your intuition, and maybe even a magnifying glass to crack the case.
Exciting news for mystery lovers—“Murder at the Movies” is showing on five special dates this summer at the VIFF Centre (VC): Saturday, July 12 at 8:00 PM; Thursday, July 17 at 8:00 PM; Thursday, August 7 at 8:00 PM; and two shows on Saturday, August 9 at 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM. While similar immersive experiences have been offered in the past, this is a brand-new storyline premiering in 2025. Seating is limited to the VIFF Studio Theatre’s cozy setting, which typically accommodates around 40 to 60 guests per show. Tickets are expected to sell out quickly, with pricing available on the Vancouver Mysteries website.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of Vancouver’s most interactive summer theatre event. Whether you’re a lifelong mystery fan or just looking for a new way to enjoy the magic of cinema, Murder at the Movies delivers suspense, entertainment, and old-Hollywood flair in one unforgettable night.
