Get ready for one of the most anticipated summer events in Vancouver as the Khatsahlano Street Party returns to West 4th Avenue this Saturday, July 5, from 11 AM to 9 PM. Now in its 14th year, Khatsahlano has grown into the city’s largest free music and arts festival, bringing together over 50 of Vancouver’s top musical acts, local artisans, delicious food, and an atmosphere that can only be described as pure Kitsilano.
A Festival with Deep Roots and Wide Appeal
Originally launched in 2011 by the Kitsilano West 4th Avenue Business Association, the Khatsahlano Street Party pays homage to the area's First Nations heritage and vibrant creative culture. The event takes its name from Chief August Jack Khatsahlano, a respected Squamish medicine man known for preserving his people's history through stories and collaboration with early ethnographers.
Spanning ten city blocks from Burrard to MacDonald, this year’s festival promises to be bigger and bolder. Multiple stages will host a diverse lineup of performers, from indie rockers and folk duos to funky DJs and family-friendly acts. Notable names include Slim Sandy, Hillbilly Boppers, Scribbly Doodle, and Daysormay — with performances to delight all generations.
More Than Music: Food, Fun, and Family
Aside from the music, visitors can enjoy:
- Artisan markets and pop-up vendors
- Family Zone & Stage at Trafalgar Street
- Five licensed 19+ beer gardens at Stephens, Balsam, Vine, Yew, and Cypress
- Interactive games, giveaways, and sidewalk patios
- Eco-friendly water refill stations at multiple points
- Bike valet services at Cypress & 4th and Larch & 5th
“Khatsahlano is a celebration of Kitsilano’s spirit — creative, community-driven, and always welcoming,” says the BIA team. “We’re proud to showcase local talent and invite everyone in Vancouver and beyond to join us for an unforgettable day.”
A Respectful Gathering on Unceded Lands
The festival is held on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Organizers continue to acknowledge this land with respect and gratitude, making cultural awareness a part of the event’s foundation.
Plan Ahead
The event is free to attend, but visitors are encouraged to arrive early, bring a refillable water bottle, wear sunscreen, and take public transit or cycle to the festival. Note that outside alcohol is not permitted on festival grounds, and guests must present two valid pieces of ID to enter beer gardens.
