The Consulate General of Switzerland in Vancouver invites film enthusiasts to the Vancouver premiere of Frieda's Case, a compelling Swiss historical drama that recently won Best Feature Film at the Victoria Film Festival 2025. The free screening takes place Thursday, October 16, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at UBC's Irving K. Barber Learning Centre.

Based on a true story, Frieda's Case transports viewers to 1904 Switzerland, following the haunting tale of Frieda Keller, a young seamstress charged with murdering her infant son. The film explores themes of justice, social stigma, and women's rights in early 20th-century Europe, offering a window into a society grappling with moral and legal complexities that continue to resonate today.

This special event is co-hosted by the Consulate General of Germany and the UBC German Student Association, bringing together the Vancouver community for an evening of cinema and cultural exchange. The screening includes valuable educational components: Dr. Florian Gassner from UBC will provide historical context about the period, while a Swiss researcher will offer expert commentary on the case.

Following the film, attendees can participate in a Q&A session with the researcher, providing an opportunity to delve deeper into the historical background and discuss the film's themes. The organizers emphasize their enthusiasm for fostering meaningful dialogue about this significant piece of Swiss history.

Doors open at 5:45 PM, with the program running for approximately two and a half hours. Complimentary pizza will be served, making this a perfect midweek cultural outing. The event is suitable for all ages and promises to be both educational and thought-provoking.

While admission is free, seats are limited. A registration link will be available in the Consulate's newsletter at the beginning of October. Attendees should note that photos may be taken during the event for promotional purposes.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to experience Swiss cinema and engage with experts on this fascinating historical case at one of Vancouver's premier academic venues.
