Soccer fans and curious visitors will have a rare opportunity to see the FIFA World Cup Winner's Trophy up close this Saturday at Jack Poole Plaza in downtown Vancouver. The public viewing event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering Vancouverites a chance to witness one of the most coveted prizes in world sport.

The trophy display will mark an official FIFA World Cup 26 welcome by the host nations: Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh. Indigenous cultural performances are scheduled to take place between 9:45 a.m. and 10 a.m., adding cultural significance to the celebration.

Organizers emphasize this is strictly a "photo opportunity" event, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The free public event allows families, soccer enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the symbol of global football glory to experience it in their own backyard.

This marks the second announced viewing of the FIFA World Cup trophy in Vancouver. The trophy will also be displayed for free on Tuesday at the Italian Cultural Centre in East Vancouver, creating multiple opportunities for different communities to celebrate.

FIFA vice president and East Vancouver native Victor Montagliani expressed his excitement about bringing the trophy to his hometown. "East Vancouver was built by immigrant communities whose cultures created the rich fabric of this neighbourhood – including a deep love for football. I'm proud to have grown up here," Montagliani said. "Seeing the FIFA World Cup Winner's Trophy in East Van is a full-circle moment for me – and a chance for the community to begin celebrating what's to come."

As one of 16 FIFA World Cup host cities, Vancouver is preparing to host seven matches at BC Place in June and July 2026. Along with Toronto, Vancouver represents one of two Canadian host cities for the North American tournament, which will also feature matches in the United States and Mexico.

This World Cup holds special significance for Canada, marking the country's first time hosting the men's tournament, though Canada previously hosted the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015. The trophy viewing events serve as an early celebration of what promises to be a historic sporting moment for Canadian soccer fans.
