Vancouver's downtown core is once again glowing with festive cheer, thanks to the return of illuminated giant letter installations scattered throughout the city. Building on last year's success, these oversized messages create perfect photo opportunities for residents and visitors exploring the holiday trail.
The concept began when Vancouver repurposed the massive "VANCOUVER" sign and other promotional letters originally used for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concerts in December 2024. Following the concerts, Destination Downtown transformed these illuminated letters into a holiday spectacle, spelling out cheerful words like "ELF," "NOEL," "WREATH," and "STAR" across thirteen locations downtown.
This year, the beloved "VANCOUVER" sign is back, inviting locals and tourists to show their city pride while soaking in the seasonal atmosphere. The tradition of giant letters has become a signature feature of Vancouver's winter landscape, turning simple strolls through downtown into treasure hunts for the next Instagram-worthy moment.
These installations complement Vancouver's other holiday attractions, including the Christmas Market at Jack Poole Plaza, the stunning 76-foot Christmas tree at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Fleurs de Villes NOËL floral displays inspired by "The Twelve Days of Christmas." Together, they transform the city into a winter wonderland where festive photo ops await around every corner.
Whether you're hunting for all the letter installations or simply stumbling upon one during your holiday shopping, these glowing messages remind us to celebrate the joy of the season. Don't forget to share your photos with #destinationdowntownvan.
Merry Christmas, ho ho ho! What's on your wish list this year?
