Unplug to Reconnect: Finding Your Why This Thanksgiving

As entrepreneurs and real estate investors, we live in a world that rarely slows down. There’s always another deal to close, a client to call, or a goal to chase. But as Thanksgiving arrives, it’s the perfect reminder that our deepest reason for striving, our “why”, has nothing to do with business metrics. It’s about the people we love, the moments we share, and the gratitude we feel when we’re truly present.

This year, Thanksgiving holds a deeply personal meaning for me. After losing my home in a devastating fire and spending two long years rebuilding, both the structure and my spirit, I’m finally celebrating my first Thanksgiving back home. The experience changed me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I learned that home isn’t just made of walls and windows; it’s built on love, resilience, and the people who show up for you when life brings you to your knees.

As I prepare to welcome family and friends around my table again, I can’t help but feel overwhelming gratitude for a roof over my head, for laughter echoing through the rooms, and for the blessing of simply being here. It’s a reminder that even in the hardest seasons, gratitude keeps us grounded, guiding us back to what truly matters.

Entrepreneurship can easily consume us, the late nights, the endless to-do lists, the constant push for more. But Thanksgiving invites us to slow down and reconnect with our “why.” Because the success we build is meant to serve life, not replace it. The deals and the deadlines can wait, but these moments with the people we love cannot.

So this Thanksgiving, I encourage you to unplug, to be fully present, and to cherish what’s right in front of you. Gratitude is the ultimate return on investment; it multiplies every joy and turns every challenge into a victory.

From my newly rebuilt home and full heart, I wish all Canadians a warm, joy-filled, and truly thankful Thanksgiving!
