Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Whitecaps capped off a dramatic Sunday night at BC Place with a 1–1 draw against the Houston Dynamo, highlighted by the highly anticipated Major League Soccer debut of German star Thomas Müller.
Müller entered in the 60th minute to a thunderous ovation. Within minutes he fired the ball into the net, only for the goal to be ruled offside. Even without the tally, the crowd witnessed flashes of the World Cup champion’s trademark movement and creativity.
The Whitecaps had taken the lead earlier, but Houston’s José Artur blasted home the equalizer deep into stoppage time, silencing the near-sellout crowd. The result leaves Vancouver with just one point instead of three in what had been a hard-fought contest.
The Bigger Picture
This was not the season opener. The Whitecaps began their 2025 campaign back in February on the road against Portland, with their home opener against the LA Galaxy in early March. Sunday’s game marked Week 29 of the MLS season, underscoring the importance of every point in the playoff chase.
What Comes Next
For Vancouver, the draw adds pressure heading into the final stretch of the season as they fight for playoff positioning in the Western Conference. For Müller, the debut marks the start of a new chapter in an already legendary career.
Fans can expect his influence to grow with every match as he adapts to MLS and integrates with Vancouver’s attack.
