The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom electric sports boat has made waves in the maritime world by setting a new all-time speed record at the 12th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. This groundbreaking collaboration between luxury sports car manufacturer Porsche and renowned Austrian boat builder Frauscher achieved an impressive average speed of 49.84 knots (92.3 km/h), decisively outpacing its competitors and establishing a new benchmark for electric marine propulsion.
The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge serves as one of the premier innovation platforms for sustainable maritime mobility, backed by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. This prestigious event, which promotes emission-free drive technologies under real-world conditions, measures average speed over two one-kilometer runs in its Speed category. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom that competed was a fully standard production model, painted in Porsche's distinctive Oakgreen Metallic Neo with a closed foredeck configuration, competing in the Open Sea class against top international teams.
At the heart of this revolutionary electric boat lies the drive system from the fully electric Porsche Macan Turbo, extensively adapted for marine use. The 8.67-meter-long and 2.49-meter-wide vessel combines Porsche's cutting-edge E-Performance technology with Frauscher's expertise in boat craftsmanship, resulting in an electric day cruiser that delivers exceptional performance alongside state-of-the-art technology and stylish aesthetics.
The boat's impressive specifications include 800-volt technology with up to 400 kW of power, multiple driving modes from Docking to Sport Plus, and a top speed of approximately 90 km/h (49 knots). Its range varies from 100 km at slow speeds to 45 km at cruising speed (41 km/h/22 knots), with DC charging capabilities up to 270 kW and AC charging up to 11 kW.
Stefan Frauscher, Managing Director of Frauscher Bootswerft, expressed pride in the achievement, stating that this success "not only underlines the boat's technical innovation, but also marks an important milestone in the development of electric propulsion solutions in the maritime sector." The boat even caught the attention of Prince Albert II of Monaco himself, who received a detailed explanation of the innovative vessel.
This record-breaking performance demonstrates that electric propulsion can deliver the high-performance thrills traditionally associated with Porsche, now extended from road to water. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom represents a significant leap forward in sustainable luxury boating, proving that environmental responsibility and exhilarating performance can successfully coexist in the marine industry.
