I’ve been training people in Vancouver for over 20 years, and one thing I hear a lot from clients in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s plus is, “I just don’t have the energy I used to.” They blame age, but it’s not always that simple. Much of it comes down to mitochondria, the tiny power plants inside our cells that produce energy.

As we get older, our mitochondria become less efficient. That’s why fatigue, stiffness, and slower recovery sneak up on so many people in midlife. But here’s the part most people don’t know: strength training actually stimulates mitochondrial growth and function. In other words, the right kind of training can literally recharge your body’s batteries.

Living in a city like Vancouver, with cycling, skiing, and endless trails right at our doorstep, staying strong and energized well into midlife isn’t a luxury, it’s essential for keeping up with the lifestyle we love. I’ve seen clients come in convinced they were “too old” to change, only to find themselves stronger, sharper, and more confident after just a few months of structured training.

For me, it’s not just about muscle. It’s about giving people the tools to stay active, healthy, and vibrant in the second half of their lives.
