Nigeria has officially launched GovGuide Nigeria, a new artificial intelligence-powered chatbot designed to give citizens faster and easier access to government information and public services through conversational AI. The initiative marks one of the country’s most ambitious uses of artificial intelligence within the public sector and reflects the nation’s growing commitment to digital transformation.

The platform was developed through a partnership involving the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Meta, the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and Nigerian technology company Publica AI. According to officials, GovGuide is intended to simplify interactions between Nigerians and government agencies by making official information easier to access in real time.

The chatbot supports both voice and text communication and is currently available in English, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. This multilingual approach is expected to improve accessibility for millions of Nigerians across different regions and linguistic backgrounds, helping bridge gaps in digital inclusion and public engagement.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, described the initiative as part of the government’s broader effort to use technology to improve transparency and public service delivery. He noted that deploying AI tools in local languages can help make government services more accessible and strengthen trust between citizens and institutions.

Meta also highlighted the project as an example of how open-source AI can support economic growth and innovation across Africa. GovGuide was reportedly built using Llama AI models and optimized specifically for Nigerian public-sector use cases.

“Deploying AI tools in local languages could help strengthen transparency and trust while making government services more accessible to everyday Nigerians.”
“GovGuide signals a shift toward AI-driven governance where technology becomes a bridge between citizens and essential services.”

The launch comes as Nigeria continues to expand investments in AI training, digital governance, and public-sector modernisation. For many citizens, GovGuide represents more than just a chatbot. It is a step toward a future where technology can make government services faster, more inclusive, and more responsive to the needs of everyday people.
