VANCOUVER — Residents across Greater Vancouver are seeing hazy skies today as wildfire smoke drifts in from multiple interior regions of British Columbia.
Environment Canada has extended special air quality alerts to cover the entire Lower Mainland, including Metro Vancouver, the Eastern Fraser Valley, and up to Whistler and Pemberton. The alerts indicate the potential for smoky conditions over the next 24 to 48 hours.
Forecast models from BlueSky Canada reveal elevated PM2.5 concentrations, suggesting that ground-level smoke may continue to affect visibility and air quality.
In response, Metro Vancouver recommends residents monitor the local Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) using reliable platforms like airmap.ca or bcairquality.ca. Those most at risk, such as young children, older adults, individuals with respiratory or heart conditions, and those working outdoors, should take extra precautions.
What You Can Do
- Keep windows and doors closed when possible.
- Consider using a HEPA air purifier indoors.
- Limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during haze peaks.
- Watch local updates to stay informed on changing conditions.
