Coquitlam, BC – The Vancouver Water Lantern Festival is set to illuminate Town Centre Park on August 16, 2025, bringing together community members for an evening of light, reflection, and connection. The festival, inspired by cherished traditions like Thailand's Loy Krathong and Vietnam's Full Moon Lantern Festival, promises to be a magical celebration that combines personal reflection with shared community joy.

Running from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the festival offers four hours of enchanting activities centred around the symbolic act of releasing decorated lanterns onto Lafarge Lake. Each attendee receives a lantern kit to personalize with messages, artwork, or wishes before setting it afloat under the evening sky.

The event features live musical performances from local artists, creating an atmospheric backdrop that enhances the peaceful yet celebratory mood. Interactive games provide opportunities for attendees to connect with one another, while diverse food trucks offer everything from comfort food to adventurous treats, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate.

"At its core, the festival is about connection—connecting with others, with your own thoughts, and with the moment," organizers explain. The unique combination of personal reflection and community celebration creates an experience that resonates with people of all ages.

Town Centre Park, surrounding Lafarge Lake, provides the perfect setting for this luminous gathering. The venue offers ample space for visitors to walk, relax, and take in the serene lake views while participating in the festivities. For those travelling from out of town, the location is easily accessible from Vancouver International Airport via SkyTrain, with the Millennium Line providing direct service to Lafarge Lake–Douglas Station.

Ticket options cater to various group sizes and preferences, ranging from General Admission at $43.05 to VIP experiences at $79.17. Special packages include a Date Night Special for couples and a Family/Friends 4-Pack for smaller groups. All tickets include lantern kits, playing cards, drawstring bags, and entry into a festival scavenger hunt.

Weather conditions in August typically favor outdoor celebrations, with comfortable daytime temperatures around 22°C and mild evenings cooling to about 13°C. The low chance of rain makes it an ideal time for this enchanting outdoor event.

The festival exemplifies the power of light to bring communities together, offering a peaceful respite from daily life while creating lasting memories. As lanterns drift across the water, participants become part of a beautiful tradition that celebrates hope, connection, and the simple joy of sharing meaningful moments with others.
