Nestled in the heart of the Fraser Valley, the Langley Rivermen are more than just a hockey team — they’re a local institution. Representing Langley in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), the Rivermen bring high-caliber junior A hockey to fans and serve as a springboard for young athletes aspiring to reach collegiate and professional levels. But just as importantly, they help unite a community around a shared love for the game.
A Team with Local Roots
The Rivermen were established in 2011, following the relocation of the Quesnel Millionaires to Langley. Since then, the team has cultivated a strong local following, playing home games out of the George Preston Recreation Centre. The venue is not just a rink — it’s a gathering place where generations of Langley residents have cheered on hometown heroes, celebrated youth hockey milestones, and embraced the culture of Canada’s national pastime.
Unlike major league teams, junior A hockey offers a unique intimacy. Fans often know the players by name, interact with them in the community, and watch their progression season by season. That closeness makes the Rivermen an integral part of Langley’s sporting identity.
Developing the Next Generation
The Rivermen are known for developing talent that goes on to succeed in NCAA hockey and beyond. Players range in age from 16 to 20, giving them a crucial developmental window where coaching, competition, and exposure all converge. With a strong focus on education, many athletes leave the Rivermen to pursue scholarships at prestigious universities across North America.
Former Rivermen have gone on to play in the NHL, international leagues, and U Sports programs, with alumni crediting the organization’s structure, support, and competitive environment as key to their success.
Community at the Core
The Langley Rivermen are deeply involved in the community — hosting school visits, participating in charitable events, and serving as mentors for youth. They regularly support local causes, from food drives and toy donations to reading programs and mental health initiatives.
This community engagement not only enhances the lives of those they serve, but also teaches players the value of leadership off the ice. Young fans look up to the players not just for their slapshots and saves, but for their character and commitment to Langley’s well-being.
A Game-Day Experience for Everyone
Attending a Rivermen game is more than watching hockey — it’s a family-friendly outing filled with energy, music, and local pride. Between-period contests, fan giveaways, and crowd participation make the experience accessible and entertaining for hockey die-hards and newcomers alike.
And with affordable ticket prices and easy accessibility, the Rivermen games are a staple in Langley’s weekend calendar — a place where community spirit is as thick as the ice.
Looking Ahead
As the BCHL grows and evolves, the Langley Rivermen are well-positioned to remain a force in the league and a pillar in the community. With a strong emphasis on player development, civic engagement, and fan experience, the team continues to build a lasting legacy in Langley.
Whether you're a lifelong hockey fan or new to the sport, the Langley Rivermen offer a front-row seat to athletic ambition, community pride, and the enduring spirit of Canadian hockey.
