On May 1, 2025, the Junction Commission unveiled a groundbreaking shipping container sale at Granville Square in downtown Vancouver. This initiative transforms the urban landscape by repurposing shipping containers into vibrant retail and dining spaces, offering a unique experience for both locals and tourists.
The market, constructed entirely from customized shipping containers, features over 25 vendors, including local artisans and food stalls. Visitors can explore a diverse array of offerings, from handcrafted jewelry to gourmet street food. Notable vendors include Yo Bones BBQ, Bao Buns, and Seaside Ice Box, providing a culinary journey that reflects Vancouver's multicultural heritage.
Adding to the ambiance, the market hosts live entertainment on "The Music Box" stage, a shipping container converted into a performance platform. Local musicians and artists perform regularly, creating a lively atmosphere that enhances the shopping and dining experience.
The Junction Commission's initiative not only revitalizes the waterfront area but also promotes sustainable urban development by utilizing repurposed materials. This innovative approach aligns with Vancouver's commitment to environmental consciousness and community engagement.
The shipping container market is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, and on holiday Mondays, until September 29, 2025. Admission is free, inviting everyone to experience this unique blend of commerce, culture, and sustainability.
