Vancouver’s arts scene is set to sparkle this spring as Joshua Beamish/MOVETHECOMPANY returns from a critically acclaimed engagement at New York’s Lincoln Center to present a breathtaking 20th Anniversary Gala at the Vancouver Playhouse on May 29 and 30, 2025.
Celebrating two decades of bold choreographic innovation, this milestone event features five dynamic works that chart the evolution of Beamish’s celebrated career. The evening includes four Vancouver premieres and an all-star lineup of ballet talent from across North America, making it one of the most anticipated dance events of the year.
From the nostalgic charm of a Beach Boys-inspired ballet to the percussive pulse of John Adams, audiences will be treated to an unforgettable spectrum of movement and music. Highlights include Trap Door Party, the breakout work that launched Beamish into the national spotlight; Lollapalooza, his debut piece for The National Ballet of Canada; and Marcato, a high-octane ensemble work exploring masculine dynamics. STAY offers a tender, meditative duet, while Endless Summer wraps the evening in warm, sun-drenched memories.
The stellar cast features international ballet stars including Frances Chung (San Francisco Ballet), Harrison James (National Ballet of Canada/San Francisco Ballet), Kirsten Wicklund (Ballet Edmonton), Stephanie Petersen (American Ballet Theatre), and Amber Barton, along with artists from Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet and more.
Adding depth to the experience, attendees are invited to a pre-show Artist Talk at 6:45 PM in the Balcony Lobby with Artistic Director Joshua Beamish and Heather Dotto.
With limited performances and unparalleled talent, this gala promises to be a landmark moment in Canadian dance. Tickets are expected to sell fast—don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness a master choreographer’s legacy unfold on the Vancouver stage.
