Steeping a single plastic tea bag in hot water can release up to 11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 billion nanoplastics. Choose loose-leaf tea with a stainless steel infuser or opt for certified plastic-free tea bags. - Sea Salt
Sea salt, harvested from polluted oceans, can carry up to 1,155 plastic particles per kilogram. Switch to mined rock salt or Himalayan pink salt, which typically contain fewer microplastics. - Bottled Water
Bottled water may contain between 325 to 10,000 plastic particles per liter. These often originate from the packaging. Use a high-quality home water filter and store your water in glass or stainless steel containers. - Shellfish
Shrimp, mussels, and oysters are known to accumulate microplastics from their aquatic environments. Reduce your intake or choose sustainably sourced fish and alternative proteins like legumes or chicken. - Instant Rice
Instant rice can contain up to 13 milligrams of plastic per 100 grams—four times more than regular rice. Always rinse your rice thoroughly and avoid highly processed varieties.
