A major infrastructure upgrade is underway in Delta as construction begins on the long-anticipated 78 Street Interchange over Highway 99 — a project that promises to reshape local industrial access and catalyze job creation.

A New Gateway to Growth

The interchange is being built to support the development of Parkwood Industrial Estates, a 148-acre site at 5224 88 Street expected to bring 1,000+ permanent jobs to the region. The new overpass will connect Ladner Trunk Road to a new connector road, improving access for commercial traffic while easing congestion on nearby corridors.

This infrastructure investment is the result of a partnership between the City of Delta and Beedie Development Group, and forms a core part of Delta’s plan to strengthen economic opportunities in South Delta.

What’s Being Built

  • Highway 99 Overpass at 78 Street
  • Realignment of Burns Drive to streamline vehicle movement parallel to the highway
  • Traffic circles at 80 Street and 88 Street with on/off ramps
  • Two-way connector road between Ladner Trunk and the new development

These features aim to enhance efficiency and safety for trucks, farm vehicles, and local commuters alike.

Impacts and Opportunities

While construction may cause periodic traffic delays in 2025, the long-term benefits are significant. Improved access to the Tilbury and East Ladner industrial zones could mean:

  • Easier movement for shipping and logistics companies
  • Greater appeal for industrial investment
  • New opportunities for local employment and service providers
