Beijing, China – Artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare, and China has unveiled a pioneering achievement: the world’s first AI hospital, Agent Hospital, staffed by 42 AI doctors.

Developed by Tsinghua University’s Institute for AI Industry Research (AIR), this virtual facility integrates cutting-edge technology across 21 medical departments, including cardiology, pediatrics, and neurology. Capable of treating 10,000 patients in just days, Agent Hospital marks a revolutionary step toward efficient, precise, and accessible medical care, redefining the future of healthcare delivery.

The Agent Hospital leverages advanced large language models to power its 42 AI doctors, who diagnose and treat patients with a remarkable 93.06% accuracy rate, as validated on standardized U.S. medical exam questions. Operating in a virtual environment, these AI doctors process patient interactions via voice or text, delivering personalized care plans in seconds.

In initial trials, the hospital managed 10,000 simulated patient cases in days, a workload that would take a human doctor years to complete at 100 patients per week. This scalability addresses global healthcare challenges, particularly in areas with limited medical staff.

Liu Yan, lead researcher at AIR, states, “Agent Hospital redefines medical diagnostics and treatment, offering unmatched efficiency.” The system simulates the entire medical workflow, from consultations to follow-ups, and continuously learns from vast medical datasets to enhance its precision. It also serves as a training platform, enabling medical students to practice in realistic scenarios with instant feedback.

China plans to export this AI hospital model to regions facing healthcare shortages, sparking global interest in its potential. However, concerns about replacing human judgment and ensuring ethical AI integration persist. Researchers are focused on refining diagnostic capabilities and fostering collaboration with human doctors for future clinical applications.

Agent Hospital heralds a new era in healthcare, where AI streamlines routine tasks, potentially alleviating pressure on overworked medical professionals and improving patient outcomes. As China leads this technological frontier, the world is watching to see how AI-driven medicine will balance innovation with the human touch. The success of this virtual hospital could transform global healthcare, making high-quality care faster, more accessible, and more precise for millions.
