Prepare to be inspired! On June 11, Chor Leoni invites you to C/4, their Canadian Choral Composition Competition — an interactive, one-of-a-kind concert experience at Canadian Memorial Church.
This special evening brings together three of Canada’s most innovative composers — Tawnie Olson, Benjamin Sigerson, and Dr. Roydon Tse — for a thrilling exploration of brand new choral works. Unlike traditional concerts, C/4 puts you right in the heart of the creative process. As an audience member, you’ll hear each composition performed live twice, follow along with your own copy of the score, ask questions directly to the composers, and vote for your favourite piece.
Choral music is a genre of music written specifically for and performed by a choir, which is a group of singers. It typically involves multiple vocal parts sung simultaneously, often divided into soprano, alto, tenor, and bass (SATB) sections.
Key features of choral music:
- It can be a cappella (without instruments) or accompanied by piano, organ, orchestra, or other instruments.
- It spans many styles and time periods, from sacred music like Gregorian chants and church hymns to secular pieces, modern compositions, and world music.
- It is performed in various settings: concert halls, churches, schools, or even outdoors.
In essence, choral music is about the collective voice, blending individual singers into a powerful, unified sound. It's celebrated for its emotional depth, rich harmonies, and ability to bring communities together through song.
It's more than a concert — it’s a collaborative journey through the imagination of today’s top Canadian choral voices. Whether you're a seasoned music lover or simply curious about how music is made, C/4 offers a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and be inspired.
Last year’s audience raved about the format. As one attendee, Anne, shared:
“I was absolutely exhilarated by this concert. Engaging and entertaining format. I just loved the audience participation and interaction with the composers. Hearing the compositions TWICE was particularly interesting and meaningful. Can't wait to come to C/4 again next year.”
Don’t miss this unforgettable musical evening that showcases creativity, conversation, and community. Get your tickets now and experience choral music like never before.
