British Columbia's annual celebration of arts, culture, and heritage is set to return this fall, bringing thousands of free interactive events to communities across the province. BC Culture Days runs from September 19th to October 12th in 2025, offering residents and visitors alike the chance to discover the rich cultural landscape that defines the province.
Origins and Mission
Culture Days was initiated in 2010 by the Canadian Arts Summit, made up of some of Canada's largest arts organizations, and was inspired by the success of Québec's Journées de la culture weekend. What began as a national initiative has grown into Canada's largest public participation campaign for the arts, with BC serving as one of the most active participating provinces.
The program encourages communities to open their doors and share their artistic traditions, providing hands-on experiences that make culture accessible to everyone regardless of background or economic situation.
Widespread Provincial Participation
BC Culture Days takes place in communities large and small across British Columbia. Workshops, art showings, live performances and more happening in Abbotsford, Kamloops, Prince George, Quesnel, Trail, Surrey, Vernon, Vancouver, Victoria and more demonstrate the program's extensive reach throughout the province.
Cities like Richmond and Coquitlam have embraced the initiative, with Richmond's artists and cultural organizations invited to register interactive events to promote arts and culture in our community, while Coquitlam presents free programming open to all residents.
Cultural Ambassadors and Community Leaders
The program features cultural ambassadors from across the province who represent diverse backgrounds and artistic disciplines. Last year there were six culture ambassadors, including two from Metro Vancouver: Harmeet Kaur Virdee and Jesse Medrano-Ramos, showcasing the collaborative nature of the celebration.
How to Participate in 2025
Organizations, artists, and cultural groups interested in hosting events can register their activities through the Culture Days website. By offering free or pay-what-you-may experiences such as hands-on workshops and demonstrations, participants help create an inclusive cultural celebration that welcomes everyone to explore British Columbia's vibrant arts scene.
