Yesterday, I witnessed something I will never forget.
It was a hot, humid Houston afternoon — the kind we all know too well. My neighbor had been working outside in the yard as I returned from the gym. Later, around 1 p.m., I heard my puppy barking. I looked outside and saw firemen and paramedics gathered around a lifeless body.
They were trying to revive him. But it was too late. I saw his arms fall like those of an inanimate object instead of a human being, after they turned him over. From afar, I said a prayer. I just couldn't believe it.
We’re still waiting on the autopsy, but my heart tells me that his age, weight, and possible dehydration were contributing factors. He died right there — in the summer heat, doing what seemed like a simple task. One which is performed on a daily basis by many.
This isn’t just a tragic story. It’s a wake-up call.
Dehydration kills. And before it does that, it silently drains your energy, clouds your thinking, and weakens your performance — especially in the summer heat.
But even if you're not outdoors, your business performance is at risk when you're under-hydrated.
Mild dehydration — just a 1–2% drop in body fluids — can result in:
- Brain fog and memory lapses
- Slower reaction times and poor decision-making
- Increased irritability and stress
- Physical fatigue and lower stamina
- Decreased productivity and focus
For leaders, creatives, and entrepreneurs, hydration is not optional — it’s mission critical. Your cognitive agility, mood stability, and execution speed all rely on a well-hydrated system. When your brain isn’t running on all cylinders, your business won’t either.
Think of it this way: every pitch, every negotiation, every leadership moment depends on how well your body and mind show up.
☀️ Smart Summer Hydration Tips for High Performers:
- 🥤 Start your day with water before caffeine — your brain and organs need a wake-up rinse.
- 🍋 Add lemon or sea salt to enhance absorption and electrolyte balance.
- 🕐 Set hourly reminders to sip — thirst is a late signal.
- 🥗 Eat hydrating foods like cucumbers, watermelon, berries, celery, and lettuce.
Leadership begins with presence — and presence begins with physical clarity.
This summer, and always, please hydrate. Your body, your mind, and your business depend on it.
