The Vancouver Whitecaps FC are wrapping up a strong stretch of home games at BC Place before embarking on one of the most unusual mid-season stretches in MLS history — an extended road trip driven by the FIFA Men's World Cup 2026 coming to Vancouver.
Before they head out, fans still have four more chances to cheer on the 'Caps at BC Place. On April 4, the Whitecaps host Cascadia rivals the Portland Timbers in a match loaded with rivalry tension. On April 11, New York City FC comes to town, followed by Sporting Kansas City on April 17 and the Colorado Rapids on April 25 to close out the home schedule for the spring.
Then, the 'Caps hit the road — and don't look back for over 100 days.
With BC Place being prepared as a FIFA World Cup 2026 venue, MLS pauses from late May until mid-July. Vancouver takes full advantage by clustering their away fixtures into one extended road swing. In May, the team travels to face the LA Galaxy (May 2), the San Jose Earthquakes (May 9), FC Dallas (May 13), the Houston Dynamo (May 16), and San Diego FC (May 23). That's five consecutive away matches across California and Texas — a demanding gauntlet for any squad.
June sees the full MLS break kick in, with the World Cup taking centre stage globally. League play resumes in mid-July, with Vancouver travelling to face the Chicago Fire on July 16 — the first competitive match after the long pause.
The wait finally ends on August 1, when the Whitecaps return to BC Place for a marquee rivalry clash against Los Angeles FC — a fitting, high-profile homecoming after more than three months away.
Müller: Star Player by Day, TV Expert by Night
Adding a remarkable layer to this already extraordinary summer is the dual role being played by Whitecaps star Thomas Müller. His impressive stint with Vancouver — contributing goals and assists across MLS and cup competitions — caught the attention of German broadcaster MagentaTV, earning him a coveted expert role for their FIFA 2026 World Cup coverage.
Müller, the 2014 World Cup winner and Germany's most decorated footballer, will serve as an analyst accompanying MagentaTV's coverage of all 104 World Cup matches across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
So where will Müller actually be during the tournament? The answer is: North America — but not always Vancouver. Key pundits, including Müller, will be based at MagentaTV's studio at One World Trade Center in New York, reporting live from the USA, while the broadcast centre in Ismaning/Munich provides commentary, tactical analysis, and additional services.
Müller and anchor Johannes B. Kerner are expected to report directly from the stadiums for top matches FIFA, alongside fellow World Cup winner Mats Hummels and coaching legend Jürgen Klopp.
MagentaTV's coverage runs from June 11 through July 19, 2026. Kulturigo Since MLS is on pause during this period and the Whitecaps have no games scheduled, Müller's broadcasting commitments won't conflict with his playing duties — making him arguably the most uniquely positioned footballer at the entire tournament: a current MLS player analyzing the World Cup being played, in part, in his own backyard.
