The Whistler soccer community is celebrating a milestone achievement as the Whistler Eagles FC captured their first-ever Whistler Premier League (WPL) championship in January 2026, capping off what many are calling the most competitive season in a decade.
In a dramatic title-deciding match against Phoenix, the Eagles demonstrated the skill and determination that defined their championship run. The victory marks a historic moment for the club and energizes the local soccer scene heading into the new year.
The 2025/26 WPL season featured exceptional competition, with the Eagles battling against established rivals Peak FC and Blackcomb Rovers throughout the campaign. The tight race for the top spot kept fans engaged all season, ultimately culminating in the Eagles' triumphant finish.
Beyond the championship glory, Whistler's soccer landscape continues to thrive at multiple levels. The Whistler FC "Bingers Army" competes in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League, offering local players a high-level competitive platform. Meanwhile, the Whistler Youth Soccer Club ensures the sport's future by developing young talent in the community.
Winter soccer activities remain vibrant, with programs like indoor 7s leagues keeping players active during the colder months. A Winter 7s season is set to begin soon, providing another competitive outlet for local enthusiasts.
The region's soccer infrastructure is also improving. Nearby Squamish has developed new artificial turf fields at Brennan Park, enhancing playing conditions for clubs throughout the Sea-to-Sky corridor.
Looking ahead, excitement is building for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will bring matches to Vancouver. The tournament has generated massive global interest, with over 500 million ticket requests reported worldwide. Locally, the Vancouver Whitecaps are preparing for the 2026 MLS season, including an international training camp in Spain.
As teams begin preparations for spring and summer leagues, and Canadian professional sides gear up for the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the momentum from the Eagles' championship promises to fuel continued growth and enthusiasm for soccer throughout Whistler and the surrounding region.
