Let me start by saying this: if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed in your business, like you’re barely treading water while everyone else seems to be cruising along on luxury yachts—you're not alone.
I’ve been there. I’ve stood in the middle of my office, the dogs barking, laundry piled up, and an email campaign half-written, wondering if any of it mattered. Wondering if I was even doing it right.
And you know what I’ve realized after years of caregiving, community work, and now running my own business?
We all fall off the boat sometimes.
It might be a missed opportunity. A launch that flops. A website that hasn’t been updated since your son was in diapers. (Mine are grown now, and I still catch myself using the same “temporary” headshot I threw up in 2010.) It happens.
But when you're flailing in the water, the last thing you need is a 200-page marketing textbook thrown at your head.
What you need is a life preserver.
For most of the small business owners and solopreneurs I work with, that life preserver often looks like a Google Business Profile. Not flashy. Not overwhelming. Just a simple, sturdy place to start.
Why? Because it's a tool that meets people where they are. It helps local customers find you. It allows you to share updates, gather reviews, post photos, and say clearly: “Here’s who we are and how we can help.”
You don’t need a team of 12 or a $50K marketing budget to make it work. You just need someone to say, “Here. Grab this. Let’s start here.”
That’s what I aim to do in my work—help people who care deeply about their work, their families, and their communities find solid ground again. And often, it’s not about making everything perfect. It’s about making a start.
So if you’re feeling lost in the sea of marketing “shoulds,” let’s toss out the fluff and find something simple, useful, and steady.
Grab the life preserver. You’re not alone in this.
