Entrepreneur Mentors Teenagers in Franchise Bootcamp -Edison, NJ

What if students learned about business directly from the people building them? That’s exactly what happened at the EdisonCare Business Internship Bootcamp, where local entrepreneur and franchise consultant Pankaj Kumar spent the last month mentoring a group of driven teenagers on what it really takes to start and run a business.

Hosted in collaboration with DNA Franchise and EdisonCare, this bootcamp provided students with hands-on experience in the world of franchising—a topic many adults don’t discover until much later in life.

“I didn’t know what a franchise was until I turned 25,” said Pankaj. “These kids are getting introduced to it at 15.”

The students participated in real-world training, interactive sessions, and live business walkthroughs inside a working franchise. They wrapped up the program by receiving official completion certificates from Pankaj himself, having explored topics like business models, customer experience, operations, marketing, and profitability.

“At 15, I was memorizing textbook definitions. These kids are learning actual systems,” Pankaj said.

This initiative wasn’t just about exposure—it was about inspiration. One student said, "Now I know I want to own something of my own someday.”

Pankaj, the founder of Bowl’d Masala, a modern Indian fast-casual brand, has over 27 years of global hospitality experience, including work with brands like Pizza Hut, A&W, and Domino’s. He now dedicates his time to helping aspiring entrepreneurs through DNA Franchise, where he guides others in finding business opportunities suited to their lifestyle and budget.

“When EdisonCare invited me to mentor this program, I knew I had to say yes. Watching them grow and push their limits—it was nothing short of inspiring.”

The Bootcamp is part of EdisonCare’s mission to prepare youth for leadership roles through hands-on learning and practical mentorship.
