This weekend, all eyes are on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where motorsport and movie magic collide, courtesy of Germany’s iconic sports car manufacturer, Porsche. The Stuttgart-based brand is making headlines not only for its racing prowess but also for a unique cinematic partnership with Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt.
Porsche’s customer team, Manthey Racing, is entering a third Porsche 911 GT3 R in this year’s race, sporting a striking turquoise-and-blue livery with magenta highlights inspired by “Chip Hart Racing,” the fictional team at the heart of Pitt’s upcoming film, F1® The Movie. The No. 90 car, instantly recognizable to racing fans and moviegoers alike, represents a bold crossover between cinematic storytelling and real-life endurance racing at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche in Stuttgart, Germany, the marque is globally renowned for its engineering excellence, sleek design, and an unmatched legacy of motorsport success, including 19 overall victories and 111 class wins at Le Mans. The 24 Hours of Le Mans, a cornerstone of European racing heritage since 1923, is the perfect stage for this automotive and cinematic collaboration.
In F1® The Movie, set for global release on June 25, 2025 (and June 27, 2025, in North America), Brad Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver lured back to the sport for one last shot at glory after a career-altering crash. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), the film was shot during actual Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends and at the 2024 24 Hours of Daytona, where Porsche partnered with Wright Motorsports to capture authentic racing footage using a Porsche 911 GT3 R adorned with the Chip Hart Racing livery.
That same film car has now come to life at Le Mans. The No. 90 Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by Antares Au (Hong Kong), Klaus Bachler (Austria), and Loek Hartog (Netherlands), earned its entry by winning the GT class in the 2024–2025 Asian Le Mans Series. Au and Hartog are making their Le Mans debuts, while Bachler brings experience from a second-place finish in 2014.
The car joins Manthey’s two full-season FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) entries: the No. 85 Iron Dames car, driven by the all-female trio of Rahel Frey, Michelle Gatting, and Célia Martin, and the No. 92 Manthey 1st Phorm car, piloted by Ryan Hardwick, Richard Lietz, and Riccardo Pera.
As Porsche blends its precision-engineered German race cars with Hollywood glamour, the 2025 Le Mans race—held June 14–15—becomes more than a test of speed and endurance. It’s a global showcase of culture, innovation, and storytelling. For Vancouver fans, it’s a reminder that world-class engineering often begins in Stuttgart, then races onto circuits and screens worldwide.
