As the curling season heats up, Edmonton is preparing to host a momentous event: the 2025 World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. Starting tomorrow, the city will welcome some of the world’s top young curling athletes at the Saville Community Sports Centre for an exciting competition that promises to highlight the next generation of curling talent. Though I’m based in Vancouver, I’ve visited Edmonton once, and I can’t help but admire the city's vibrant community and passion for sports. This event is sure to add to that excitement.
As someone who has spent two decades coaching and supporting fitness in my own community, I understand the importance of events like this that not only showcase athletic excellence but also bring people together. The World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, featuring 29 teams from across the globe, offers a fresh twist on the sport, drawing attention to mixed doubles, which is growing in popularity. These young athletes, aged 21 and under, will compete in a round-robin format with the top teams advancing to knockout rounds, culminating in the medal games on May 11.
For Edmonton, this is more than just a world-class sporting event—it’s an opportunity to demonstrate the city’s warmth, enthusiasm, and support for curling. With the Whyte Avenue district and the University of Alberta campus just nearby, it’s clear that the city will be buzzing with excitement as fans, families, and supporters gather to cheer on their teams.
While I don’t live in Edmonton, I recognize the impact this event will have on the community. Events like these allow us to celebrate the spirit of youth and sportsmanship while also strengthening local ties. At Tsquared Personal Training, we believe in the power of sport to bring people together and inspire healthy competition, and the World Junior Mixed Doubles Championship is a perfect example of that.
As the championship begins, I encourage all sports enthusiasts to support these young athletes and get involved however they can—whether by attending matches or following along from home. The event is a great reminder that sport has the ability to unite people, regardless of their backgrounds, and that’s something worth celebrating.
Edmonton’s hospitality and the energy of the community will undoubtedly shine through over the next week. Whether you're in the stands or watching from afar, let's all come together to cheer on these talented athletes and show the world what Edmonton is all about.
As we witness the competition unfold, I hope the values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect continue to resonate, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.
