On May 23, 2025, Mitacs reaffirmed its strong ties with Universities UK International (UUKi) during a ceremonial signing held at the Canadian High Commission in London. The renewed agreement, extending through 2028, highlights Canada’s commitment to international research collaboration, particularly through the Globalink Research Internship (GRI) program.

Dr. Stephen Lucas, CEO of Mitacs, and David Enríquez, Vice-President of External Relations and International Affairs, represented the organization during their official visit to London—Dr. Lucas’s first international mission since taking the helm at Mitacs.

The event featured remarks by Dr. Lucas and Jamie Arrowsmith, Director of UUKi, and included testimonials from students who have benefitted from the partnership. Trade commissioners Caroline Martin and Alexandra MacDonald also attended in support of the collaboration.

The Mitacs-UUKi partnership is among the largest within the GRI program. Since its inception in 2020, more than 600 UK students have participated in cutting-edge research internships in Canada, contributing to breakthroughs in fields ranging from quantum science to cancer treatment and sustainability.

“Mitacs is proud to renew our partnership with UUKi,” said Dr. Lucas. “By supporting global research talent, we’re driving innovation that addresses today’s biggest challenges.”

A networking event followed the signing ceremony at Canada House, focusing on future collaboration opportunities in priority sectors such as quantum technology.
