Looking back over my life, I can see my father's profound influence on my career and personality. He was more than a farmer and cattle breeder—he was a visionary, a builder, and a leader whose legacy helped shape agricultural policy in Canada.

His contributions were nationally recognized. He was inducted into both the Saskatchewan and Canadian Agriculture Halls of Fame—an honour reserved for those who truly move the needle in their field. He also received the Honour Scroll from the Saskatchewan Livestock Association for his groundbreaking work as an internationally renowned cattle breeder.

But his legacy didn’t stop at the farm gate. He served as President of Canadian Western Agribition, one of the world’s largest and most respected livestock shows. He was also a founding member and past President of the Western Farm Progress Show, then North America’s largest dryland farm machinery exhibition.

More importantly, he was a man of tremendous character. He taught me about honesty and giving of yourself to try and make the world around you a better place. I learned from him that you should treat women respectfully and conduct yourself fairly in all dealings.

The greatest gift he gave me was belief. He made me believe that everything is possible—that with hard work, I could succeed.

I think of him often, and I’m deeply grateful that he’s still with us, mentally sharp and full of wisdom in his nineties. I know the day will come when he’s no longer here, and I will miss him profoundly.

But his influence will live on. In my values. In my work. In how I lead. His legacy isn’t just a part of history—it’s a part of me.
