The Kingdom of Tooro in western Uganda is mourning the death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the age of 34. The announcement was made by the Tooro Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki.
King Oyo’s death brings to an end a remarkable reign that began when he was only three years old. He ascended the Tooro throne in 1995 following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III, becoming the world’s youngest reigning monarch. He later assumed full responsibilities as king after his official coronation in 2010.
Beyond the distinction that brought him international attention, King Oyo grew into a modern and widely admired cultural leader. His reign was associated with efforts focused on youth empowerment, education, environmental conservation and HIV/AIDS awareness.
